Artists impression of new supermarket at The Point

After years of waiting, various promises and delays, "The Point", a new shopping centre with a supermarket and seven other smaller retail outlets is finally underway.

Contractors are on site building retaining walls and moving soil around to level the area for the centre and a large 80-space carpark before building can begin.

The new shopping complex is situated at the corner of Tralee Street and Omokoroa Road.

After the major damage that occurred to the seawall along The Esplanade in the June storm 2014, the Western Bay Council contractors have begun replacing the entire length of the old wooden seawall with a significantly more robust structure.

The rock that will become a 'gateway' feature near State Highway 2 has been installed.

The rock will eventually have the word OMOKOROA mounted vertically on it and a lizard (or moko) carved into it.
