News

Here are some photos and a video link to help provide a better view of the route, recently taken using a drone. Please note that the trail shown is as accurate as possible on the photos – not perfect but it should be good to within 1-2m of the completed track.

The video is about 18 minutes long covering the entire proposed route from Tinopai Reserve to Huharua Park at Plummers Pt.

Walkway Tinopai to Bert Wall

Please note that Council have not started the actual trail design or any resource consent application processes yet along Plummers Point. There is also quite a bit of planning yet to do in the section to the railway line. Council has been getting great support from the nearby property developers.

Progress to date:

  • Vegetation clearance with an excavator/mulcher has been completed in the section bordering Jolly’s property from Tinopai Reserve and south to Furness’s. Council plan to follow up with a weed spray along here and other cleared locations when the weather is suitable.
  • Manual vegetation / trail blazing is underway – the Council contractor for this work is Full-Circle Arboriculture (Brian Ricki). Brian and his team have been accessing the planned route via Colin & Jean Furness’s property.
  • Opus staff have been undertaking geotech investigations to understand the ground conditions for the boardwalk and bridge piles. The Council is in the process of finalising the design plans with them at the moment so that it can then go out to tender.
  • From the Lynley park end, the trail has been flail mowed and surplus soil from the Lynley park subdivision development will be used to build up the track foundation for about 100m north from Lynley park on the Council owned property. This work will start as soon as we get a few fine days.

Next step:

Tender the construction of the track, boardwalk and bridges.

Council hopes to have a contractor appointed by May.
